Kasay Holbrook Gambrell completes her fifth year as the head women's golf coach at Presbyterian College in the summer of 2019.
The Blue Hose tied their program-best with a fourth place showing at the Big South Tournament in 2019. Senior Maiken Bing Paulsen claimed 7th place and ended her career with a program-best 12 top-10 finishes, besting the old mark (seven) set by Gambrell, formally Holbrook, (2008-12). Paulsen was honored by the Big South with All-Conference accolades for the second time.
In 2018, the Blue Hose had three golfers receive postseason honors from the Big South. Celia Mansour and Paulsen were named to the All-Conference team, while Serina Combs was named to the All-Freshman team. Mansour also was named the Big South Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Under Gambrell’s guidance, the Blue Hose placed a program-best 4th at the 2017 Big South Championship with a program-best score of 885 (+21). The team also recorded an 18-hole best of 287 (-1) during the second round. Mansour won the Big South individual title with a tournament record of 9-under 207. The junior also set program records for 18 holes (-6) and 54 holes (-9). Mansour was the first in program history to earn All-Conference and All-Tournament honors from the Big South.
In 2016, Ann Elizabeth Gore became the first Blue Hose golfer to be named to the Big South’s All-Freshman team.
During her tenure, the Blue Hose have had two individual medalist winners: Mansour (x2) and Paulsen. They have had four golfers receive All-Conference honors: Gore, Mansour (x4), Combs and Paulsen.
Prior to returning to PC in 2013 as an assistant golf coach, Gambrell worked at the Big Canoe POA for two years as an assistant golf pro. Starting as a third assistant in 2012, she was promoted to second assistant in March of 2013. Her responsibilities grew to include overseeing outside operations, club repair, setting up WGA Play days, and assisting in clinics. While at Big Canoe POA, she also entered into the PGA of America to begin the process of working towards her Class ‘A’ certification. As of January 2015, she is a full member the PGA of America.
While playing at PC, Gambrell had one of the most distinguished careers in program history. She earned Big South Player of the Week honors three times. She also accumulated a then program-best seven top-ten finishes and set three individual school records. Her opening round of 70 (-2) at the 2010 Great Smokies Intercollegiate still stood as the program’s best single round performance until 2016. As a freshman, she also led the team to their first and only tournament win at the 2008 Lady Falcon Invitational.
Gambrell graduated from Presbyterian College in May of 2012 with a degree in business management. She has minors in athletic coaching and physical education. She also completed her masters in athletic administration from Georgia Southern in the summer of 2018.
On June 1, 2019, she married Carl Gambrell (PC `12). The couple resides in Clinton, SC, with their beloved dog Aussie Pawla.
