Name, Image, Likeness (NIL)
Name, Image & Likeness (NIL) activities include any situation in which a student-athlete or prospective student-athlete uses their name, image, likeness or personal appearance for commercial or promotional purposes. Such activities may be athletically or non-athletically related, and may be compensated or uncompensated. Â

South Carolina state law (Bill 685—Intercollegiate Athletes’ Compensation for Name, Image, or Likeness) can be found at
https://www.scstatehouse.gov/sess124_2021-2022/bills/685.htm. The state law became effective on July 1, 2021.
The South Carolina state law requires student-athletes to disclose any NIL agreements to the institution. Student-athletes can disclose any such agreements using ARMS. Outside entities can contact the Compliance Office directly for disclosure procedures.
