Gardner-Webb enters Wednesday with a 3-6-2 record overall and an 0-2 record in the Big South. The Runnin' Bulldogs last won on September 18 against No. 20 VCU but took Clemson into double overtime on September 27 before falling, 2-1. Gardner-Webb has dropped contests to Coastal Carolina (3-1) and Campbell (3-1) in conference matches. Chris Davis leads the team with three goals and two assists for eight points.
Wednesday's match marks the 20th meeting all-time between the two sides, dating back to 1987. PC holds the edge in the series, 11-7-1, but will look for its first victory over Gardner-Webb since a 2-1 win in Clinton in 2007.
PC captured its first win of the year in its first Big South Conference match of 2011, rolling past VMI in a 3-1 win. Jonny Mercado, Ignacio Monchetti and Matthew Palma each scored in the win. The scores for Monchetti and Palma marked each player's first collegiate goal and freshman Josh Carter also picked up his first career point with an assist. Byron Quinatoa leads the team with two goals.
The Blue Hose host Campbell on Saturday afternoon to wrap up a three-match homestand. PC then heads to matches at Liberty on October 14 and High Point on October 19.
