CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College men's soccer team kicks off a four-game road stretch that takes the squad through the rest of September with an afternoon matchup against the Georgia Southern Eagles on Wednesday.
PC looks for its first win of the season after dropping a Saturday contest to Erskine, 3-1. Wednesday's match marks the first road game for PC since opening the season on August 27 at East Tennessee State.
Wednesday's match serves as the home opener for Georgia Southern as the Eagles enter the contest with a 3-1-1 record. Against Big South competition, Georgia Southern fell to Winthrop in double overtime (5-4) and tied Gardner-Webb, 1-1. Luigi Clendining leads the team with four goals and four assists for 12 points. Two goalkeepers split time for Georgia Southern, with Ryan Platt going 2-0-1 with a 0.62 goals against average and Bradley Bugg going 1-1 with a 2.22 goals against average.
PC and Georgia Southern meet for the fourth time in the series history after resuming the season series last year. The two sides first met in 1986 with PC taking the inaugural match in Clinton, 2-1. Georgia Southern won the next game in 1987 (3-1) but the two teams did not play each other until 2010, when PC blanked the Eagles at home with a 1-0 win on October 12.
PC aims for its first win of the year after dropping the season's first four matches. The Blue Hose scored their first goal of the season on Saturday night against Erskine when Luke Ade pulled PC even on a score in the 20 minute off of Ignacio Monchetti's first collegiate assist and point. Byron Quinatoa leads the team with 11 shots overall and Jonny Mercado's four shots on goal lead the team in that category.
The Blue Hose continues its four game road-stretch with a trip to NC State next Tuesday, September 20. The matchup marks the fourth straight year PC has traveled to Raleigh to face the Wolfpack.
