CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College men's soccer team will make the 50-mile trip north to Greenville, S.C., to visit the Furman Paladins on Friday afternoon. The Blue Hose will look to bounce back after falling to NC State on Tuesday, 4-0. Friday's match marks the third for PC in a four-game road stretch that wraps up on September 27 at Duke.
Furman enters Friday's match with a 6-1-1 record and a six-match winning streak. The Paladians dropped matches to Wake Forest (2-1) and Duke (1-0) while tying Campbell (0-0) before stringing together six wins. Furman downed Stetson (3-1) and Jacksonville (1-0) last weekend. George Fradenburg, Daniel Hojaij and Martin Ontiveros lead the team with five points each.
PC trails in the all-time series, 2-8-1, but took last year's meeting in an overtime thriller, 2-1. Logan Huff scored both goals in the season-opening win for PC. Both of PC's victories over Furman have come in overtime. The series took a hiatus from 1985 to 2007 but the two sides have squared off every year since.
PC aims for its first win of the year after falling in the team's first six matches. The Blue Hose allowed only one goal to NC State in their matchup on Tuesday before the Wolfpack pulled away in the second half.. Luke Ade leads the squad with one goal and Ignacio Monchetti had an assist on the Ade goal against Erskine. Byron Quinatoa leads the team in total shots (15) and Jonny Mercado's four shots on goal tie Quinatoa atop that category.
The Blue Hose wraps up its four-game road trip with a visit to Duke on Tuesday, September 27. PC then returns home to begin Big South Conference play by hosting VMI on Saturday, October 1.
