CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College men's soccer team continues a three-match homestand on Monday evening when it hosts Georgia State in the squad's second straight game at home. The Blue Hose will look to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to USC Upstate on Friday and grab their first win of 2011.
Georgia State enters Monday's matchup with a 1-1-0 record since starting the season on August 26 with a 1-0 win over Lipscomb. The Panthers followed up the victory with a 1-0 loss to No. 20 South Florida on Friday, and Monday's game marks Georgia State's final road game before its season opener against Mercer on September 9.
The squad also edged Big South Conference member Gardner-Webb in preseason action, 1-0. Jordan Weise scored the Panthers' only goal against Lipscomb and goalkeeper Vincent Foermer has given up one goal and made five saves in the young season.
The two teams first met in 2008 and Georgia State holds a one-game edge in the all-time series, 2-1-0. PC dropped the first matchup in Atlanta, 3-0, but knocked off the visiting Panthers two years ago to the day in 2009, 3-2. Georgia State took last year's contest with a 2-0 victory.
PC fell in its first two matches of the year, opening the season against East Tennessee State, 3-0, and coming up short in Friday night's home opener to USC Upstate, 2-0. Jonny Mercado leads the team with five shots and Luke Ade and Byron Quinatoa each have three. Freshmen Ignacio Monchetti, Hollie Gray and Pachinno Roberts have also seen offered strong play in all three starting two straight games.
The Blue Hose wrap up a three-match homestand with a contest on Erskine on Saturday night. The match marks the final time the Blue Hose will play in Martin Stadium in September, playing the four games on the road.
