Wrestling Drops Pair of SoCon Matches

Louisville, Ky. – The Presbyterian College men's wrestling team opened its SoCon season with a pair of defeats against The Citadel and Bellarmine on Sunday at Knights Hall in Louisville. The Citadel defeated PC 32-10 before a 32-18 setback against the host Knights. The tri-dual served as the season opener for Presbyterian.

NOTABLES vs The Citadel
- Bernardino Gomez got the Blue Hose off to a fast start with a 16-6 major decision in his first action as a Blue Hose in the 125 weight class match.
- In the 141 pound matchup, redshirt Sophomore Jacob Brasseur earned a hard fought victory over Tyler Seeley that gave PC the 7-3 lead following Citadel getting on the board at 133.
- The Bulldogs kept it tight pushing PC's margin to one, 7-6 before Zachary Phillips picked up a tight 11-9 decision at 157 to extend the lead to 10-6.
- Citadel would earn the win in the remaining three matches contested to propel themselves to the 32-10 victory in the match.
- Gomez along with Dominic Chavez and Victor Tello each competed in their first matches for the Blue Hose on Sunday.

NOTABLES vs Bellarmine
- Gomez got PC out to a fast start once again with a 1:21 pinfall victory in the 125-pound matchup.
- Chavez followed up Gomez's performance with a 3:48 pinfall victory of his own to push the Presbyterian advantage out to 12-0.
- Bellarmine cut into the Blue Hose lead with a tight 3-2 decision at the 141-weight class matchup before Reid Stewart got a 6-1 decision of his own at 149-pound dual to push the Blue Hose advantage back to 12, 15-3.
- The hosts were able to take advantage in the match with a technical fall and pinfall win to help propel them to a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
- PC added a 5-3 decision from Will Pontoon in the heavyweight matchup to give the match it's 32-18 final margin.
- Khalid Brinkley was able to pick up a pair of decisions in exhibition matches at both the 125 and 141 weight classes.
- Phillips also grabbed a 157-pound exhibition win as well.
