Blue Hose Blast Four Homers in Win at Radford

RADFORD, Va. – Presbyterian College tied a DI era team record with four home runs in an 11-7 win over Radford in the first game of the two teams' Big South Conference series on Friday afternoon. The Highlanders took the second game of the day, 1-0.

NOTABLES
- The Blue Hose scored their 11 runs on 18 hits in game one of the double dip, both of which were season highs. The 18 hits were also the second-most in a single game in PC's DI era (since 2008).
- Presbyterian hit four home runs in the opener, tying the team record for homers in a game in the program's DI era.
- Lexi Palazzo hit a two-run homer in game one, her first long ball as a Blue Hose. She drove in a career-high three runs in the contest and collected three hits for the day.
- Lath Freeman and Layna Johnson hit back-to-back home runs to start the fourth inning in game one, the first time Presbyterian has hit back-to-back home runs since 2016.
- Freeman's homer was part of a career-high tying three-hit game.
- Rebecca Clark also recorded a career-high three knocks in game one and scored a career-high three times.
- Courtney White tied her season-best with three hits in the first contest of the day. Her RBI double in the third inning was the 25th two-bagger of her PC career, which tied her for fifth in the program's DI record book.
- Sara Shaw tossed the final two innings of game one to earn the save, the first of her collegiate career.
- In game two, Haley Haselden carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning. The southpaw went the distance in the contest and fanned five.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
- Radford opened the scoring with a two-out grand slam in the bottom of the first.
- PC answered back with a pair of long balls in the next half inning, as Clark launched a solo homer and Palazzo belted a two-run shot to get the Blue Hose back within one, 4-3.
- With two outs in the third, Clark and White notched back-to-back run-scoring doubles to put PC on top, 5-4.
- Freeman and Johnson hit back-to-back homers to start the fourth, extending the Blue Hose advantage to 7-4. Presbyterian scored three more in the frame on a Kiley Kross sacrifice fly and RBI singles by White and Palazzo.
- The Highlanders got back to within three with a three-run fifth.
- Jillian Hewes delivered a pinch-hit RBI double in the seventh to push PC's lead to 11-7.
- Shaw closed it out for the Blue Hose, retiring six of the seven she faced to earn the save.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
- A pair of walks helped the Highlanders put two on with two down in the second, but a Haselden strikeout ended the threat.
- Palazzo led off the third with a single and got to second on a bunt, but was left stranded.
- Radford notched its only two hits of the contest in the sixth, and scratched across the game's lone run on a successful suicide squeeze play.
