Men’s Wrestling Slated to Duel Michigan State + Take Part in Citadel Open this Weekend

CHARLESTON, S.C. – A busy 48-hour stretch awaits the Presbyterian College men's wrestling team on Saturday and Sunday, opening the lid on the 2022-23 duals slate in a big way by taking on Big Ten representative Michigan State at a neutral site from Charleston's Summerville High School. The Blue Hose will segue that head-to-head against the Spartans into their second multi-team tournament of the young season the next day, participating in The Citadel Open in the same city.

Dishing out a daunting early-season test by facing a Spartans team that is currently receiving votes in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll, PC's neutral-site meeting with MSU will denote the first-ever contest between the two programs at 3:30, this being the fourth season in Blue Hose history. A total of four wrestlers came within the top eight of their respective weight class at the Princeton Open last Sunday, headlined by a pair of top five placements from Jacob Brasseur (3rd in 133-lb. at 3-1) and Malcolm Wiley (5th in 197 lb. at 4-1).

Making a convincing case to stand inside the nation's top 25 after hoisting 10 different competitors to the podium at the MSU Open in East Lansing last weekend, the Spartans will first turn their attention to the Davidson Wildcats before battling the Blue Hose, headed to the Tar Heel State on Friday evening. Four Spartans posted top-four accomplishments at their own gym six days ago, bringing high hopes into the rest of the 2022-23 campaign for head coach Roger Chandler's club.

Once the dust has cleared from the Blue Hose's highly-touted rumble with MSU, Presbyterian will submit themselves into The Citadel Open at 9:00 a.m. Sunday for their second tourney appearance of November. Brasseur, Wiley, and true freshman Ryan Luna each secured at least three victories in New Jersey during the season-opening meet at Princeton, aiming to keep climbing up the ranks in another frenetic event.

PC won't be the only ones participating for the second straight day, as the hosting Bulldogs will have gone that same route before welcoming the opposition. The Citadel will travel to Salem, Va. for the Southeast Open 24 hours prior to their own tournament, luring the Blue Hose to McAlister Field House in Charleston to close the weekend.

The Bulldogs cemented a powerful opening-day message on the first day of the month, starting off their calendar with a 45-0 route over Queens in dual competition. Sunday will not be the only time that Presbyterian and The Citadel will share the same stage, as the two sides will compete directly against each other in dual fashion on January 22 in Clinton.
