CLINTON, S.C.- The Presbyterian College softball team earned their 11
th win in a row Friday afternoon with a 10-1 victory over St. Peter's in the opening game of the Scotsman Invitational. PC now improves their record to 11-3 while St. Peter's moves to 3-3 as each team will play four more games over the weekend, rematching twice over those four games.
Game Breakdown
A modified one-two-three began the game as the leadoff man got on for St. Peter's. After a sac bunt out, the third batter flied out and the runner now at second attempted to go all the way home. A great relay from
Jaiden Tweed in center, to
Layna Johnson at short, all the way to
Lath Freeman at the plate who applied the tag got the runner to end the inning. PC used that energy to put a run up in the bottom half as Johnson got all the way to third before an out was recorded.
Kaitlyn Tucker knocked her in for an early lead.
Jenna Greene, who was in the circle, had a more conventional one-two-three in the 2
nd. The Blue Hose tacked on a pair in the bottom of the 2
nd as
Morgan Hess led off with a single.
Rebecca Clark drove her in with a triple that caromed off the center field wall. Tweed was able to reach base as Clark was thrown out, but a stolen base and a single by
Bailey Watkins brought her in.
Greene struck out two in the 3
rd to bring her team back to the plate. The hitting and scoring parade continued as Tucker led off with a double and Freeman got on with a single.
Jillian Hewes brought Tucker home with a sacrifice fly, and Hess scored Freeman on a double to left field for a 5-0 advantage. The Peacocks prevented the shutout with a run in the top of the 4
th on a single and double combination, but that's all they would get. Presbyterian was flirting with scoring again in the bottom of the inning and that's exactly what they did, all with two outs. Johnson doubled, Tucker walked, and Freeman singled to bring in Johnson. Hewes reached on an error which allowed Tucker to score and Freeman to move up to third. Then it was Hess who belted on to right center and cleared the bases with a three-run shot for a 10-1 lead. That's all PC had to do as Greene did her thing and got the final three outs for the run rule victory.
