Softball Drops Semifinal to Longwood on Friday

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Presbyterian College softball team battled to the end but ultimately dropped a 3-1 decision to Longwood in Friday morning's semifinal of the Big South Championship at Lancer Field in Farmville, Va… Freshman Morgan Hess tallied two hits to lead the Blue Hose on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
- Longwood got on the board first with a solo home run in the second to take the early advantage.
- The Lancers added an RBI single in the fifth and pushed across a run in the sixth to make it 3-0 after six.
- In the seventh, following a Hess single and a Rebecca Clark double the Blue Hose got on the board with the sacrifice fly from Kelby Goodrum to make it 3-1 but the Lancers were able to limit the Blue Hose to just one run and secure the 3-1 semifinal victory.
 
NOTABLES
- Hess totaled two hits in the contest as the Blue Hose freshman finished the tournament with a team-high eight hits.
- Clark's seventh-inning double was her fourth of the season.
- Hess finished the 2022 season with a Blue Hose single-season record in batting average (.379) surpassing Hope Rogers who hit .358 in the 2015 season.
- Jenna Greene tallied five strikeouts on Friday to finish the 2022 season with 203 strikeouts to lead the Blue Hose pitching staff.
