Blue Hose Equals Highest-Ever Point Total for Single Dual, Dominates Truett McConnell at Templeton

CLINTON, S.C. – Continuing the all-time theme between the two programs (i.e. the Blue Hose winning via commanding fashion), the Presbyterian College men's wrestling squad moved to 4-0 versus Truett McConnell on Sunday afternoon by taming the Bears 44-6.

After dropping the first bout of ten, PC shook off the suboptimal start and promptly won the following six encounters to denote the program's highest single-dual point total in the team's history.

Coincidentally, the only other 44-point outing for head coach Mark Cody's club came in its inaugural campaign (2019-20), shutting out that same opponent at Templeton Gymnasium.

Sunday stood as Presby's home opener after enduring a two-month period of road-only dates, not disappointing the thirsty audience by collecting two pins, two technical's, and an additional major decision for good measure.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Freshman Rey Ortiz (141) kicked off PC's outburst with a 6:15 fall opposite TMU's Frankie Salcedo, paving the way for Trenton Donahue (149) to defeat Matthew Johnson by a 15-point difference for a TF.

- The avalanche was just getting started for coach Cody's unit, as 157-pounder Eli Holiday followed in Donahue's footsteps by accounting for a 19-4 tech. Nathan Furman logged his team's second pin of the contest in just under four minutes, while 184-pounder Caleb Roe moved the overarching deficit to 29 on an 18-7 MD.

- With four matches in the books between the Blue Hose and the Bears, Presbyterian has grabbed the W on each occasion by an average margin of 38 points. TMU has been held to seven points or fewer in all of their affairs with the blue and garnet, giving PC its second head-to-head triumph of the university's fifth season.

UP NEXT:

- The one-sided result over Truett McConnell sends the Blue Hose towards a much-needed wave of momentum approaching Southern Conference action immediately incoming. Bellarmine will welcome Presby to Louisville this Friday for a 7:00 PM start, the first of eight league meetings from now through late February.

- All signs point toward a tough task for coach Cody and co., going one-on-one with a foe who has skyrocketed to a perfect 10-0 record this season. The Knights have secured at least 40 points in all but one contest thus far, serving up quite a challenge for the underdog Blue Hose.

- Presbyterian will then move back to Templeton for a pair of duals next Sunday and Monday, taking a brief break from SoCon territory to battle Queens before then hosting Appalachian State 24 hours later.
