Men’s Wrestling Falls to Pioneers in Season Opener

CLINTON, S.C. – Beginning a season at home for the first time in the program's six-year history, the Presbyterian College men's wrestling team was unable to make it back-to-back wins over Sacred Heart after defeating the Pioneers last fall. The final decision was 32-11 SHU on Sunday afternoon in Templeton Gymnasium.

Caleb Roe, Ryan Luna, and Trenton Donahue were all able to grab the W in the inaugural dual of the 2024-25 slate, although a match-starting 12-0 run by the visitors was enough to eventually grab the 19-point victory.

PC concluded the contest on an 8-0 run with Luna and Donahue's wins, not to mention a 20-5 technical by Reed Douglass in an exhibition run against Owen Ayotte.

Head coach Mark Cody's gang will now venture to Boone, North Carolina next weekend for the Appalachian State Invite, a rare tournament appearance on a schedule that is almost entirely made up of duals.

They'll begin the brackets in NC on Saturday, November 9 bright and early in the morning.

NOTABLES

- Roe started his individual season at 1-0 after finishing in 4th place at the SoCon Championships over the spring, downing Hunter Perez via 9-4 decision to start his junior campaign off strong.

- Despite a 29-point hole, the Blue Hose never waived the white flag with a solid finish to the dual. Donahue engineered that flurry with a 15-0 tech opposite Jack Ice in six-and-a-half minutes.

- Bumping up two whole weight classes compared to his first two seasons at PC, Luna grinded out a 4-3 W over Vincent Milazzo to wrap up the dual on a high note. Douglass then kept the good vibes rolling with his TF in the extra-countable match.
