CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men's wrestling team will reach the halfway point of the 2024 Southern Conference passage throughout a crowded weekend, taking an appointment in the state of Tennessee to battle Chattanooga on Friday evening before returning to Templeton Gymnasium two days later to go head-to-head with Gardner-Webb on Senior Day.
The Blue Hose will meet the Mocs at 7:00 PM tomorrow, scheduled to square up with the Runnin' Bulldogs at 2:00 PM when Sunday rolls around.
Seniors Michael Ramriez and
Malcolm Wiley will be recognized prior to the first bout against G-W in the second part of this busy two-match sequence, hoping to repeat last spring's 19-18 thriller over the Runnin' Bulldogs that went to PC's favor for the school's first SoCon triumph.
Head coach
Mark Cody's unit hasn't been able to find a league victory to this point in two attempts, falling to Bellarmine and more recently VMI on Saturday. The Gardner-Webb encounter will kick off a string of three consecutive divisional matchups held in Clinton.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT - CHATTANOOGA
- A force to be reckoned with behind a 9-3 record thus far (.750 win percentage), Chattanooga has already equaled last season's victory count partially due to a trio of Southern Conference W's over the likes of VMI, Davidson, and Gardner-Webb.
- Tossing aside their lone league blemish versus The Citadel, the Mocs are halfway home to matching last spring's 6-2 SoCon record by defeating the Keydets in an 18-point differential, the Wildcats in a near-identical final tally of 15 points, and most recently the Runnin' Bulldogs by that same number of 15.
- The trend for head coach Kyle Russell's club has been winning by a wide margin, averaging 29 points in their 12 duals while gaining five W's by at least 20. Perhaps even more impressively, UTC has acquired a 5-1 record when competing away from home, the only loss in that department coming against Ohio back in November.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT – GARDNER-WEBB
- In the aftermath of the aforementioned PC victory against Gardner-Webb 12 months ago, head coach Daniel Elliott's club has responded by posting a 4-7 tally prior to a home bout in 24 hours opposite Davidson.
- G-W is currently in the same boat as the Blue Hose, winless in three tries versus fellow SoCon representatives. Their last win turned out to be a notable one, however, toppling the Duke Blue Devils on January 16 by a 23-15 differential.
- 184-pounder Jha'Quan Anderson will roll into Templeton on Sunday as the Southern Conference's Wrestler of the Month winner, displaying a 20-6 overall mark while never losing in the whole month of January.
LAST TIME OUT + SENIOR DAY
- Ramirez and 157-pounder
Eli Holiday were able to acquire standard-decision wins when the Blue Hose went face-to-face with VMI, although the Keydets concluded the dual on an eight-match win streak to run away with a 46-6 final figure.
- That duo has combined for 10 wins in 2024, although forced to watch their first loss of the campaign when Clinton was the backdrop. While still in pursuit of their first divisional W, Presbyterian has been able to grab three separate victories when in a one-on-one format, downing Sacred Heart, Truett McConnell, and Queens.
- As mentioned above, Sunday's contest will begin by honoring Ramirez and Wiley's achievements while donning the PC colors as seniors. Ramirez was chosen to the All-Conference Academic Team last summer, while Wiley spent the 2022-23 journey putting together a team-best 17 wins that started with a 10-1 sprint.
