JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The third of four encounters within a 72-hour period dipped toward the opposition for the Presbyterian College softball team, coming up on the losing end of a sole bout against Tarleton State on Saturday by a 6-2 margin.
Again held in Jacksonville, Florida – the same venue where PC ran into a red-hot Marist foe and were unable to win either side of yesterday's doubleheader – the board displayed all zero's in the runs column approaching the 4
th inning.
Offense picked up a bit from then on, however, witnessing all eight scores in five straight half-innings. Unfortunately for the Blue Hose, not enough of them went their way and the Texans took the inaugural meeting between the two schools.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Starting pitcher
Jenna Greene (comfortably in the lead among all former PC players with over 600 strikeouts, 52 victories, and 21 shutouts) silenced TSU for their first 20 at-bats, conceding only a two-RBI double in the bottom of the 4
th before being relieved by freshman
Kasey Wolfe.
- Said swing broke a scoreless tie, although Presby countered in the top of the next frame with a double steal by
Emma Yanes and pinch-runner
Lanie Ruscoe, the latter of which sprinted home.
- The Texans increased their advantage to its eventual resting place of four courtesy of a sacrifice bunt and two-score single. Sophomore DP
Maddi Wood guided in her eighth RBI of the semester in the 6
th (a number that currently sits third on the roster), although that was as far as PC could go in terms of a comeback.
- Yanes and senior first-baseman
Jillian Hewes joined Wood with hits in the final box, now moving to 7-15 on the calendar as Big South action continues to creep up in less than a week.
UP NEXT
- Seeing the second half of the intended DH shelved due to incoming rain in the area, the Blue Hose will trim their number of games down to one at the Jacksonville invitational, saving the hosting Dolphins for last on Sunday.
- In PC's fourth straight road meeting out of a sequence of six, head coach
David Williams' squad will tangle with JU at 2:00 tomorrow before then travelling to Western Carolina on March 12 for a midday two-parter.
