LEXINGTON, Va. – It was a promising start for the Presbyterian College men's wrestling team in the eighth and final Southern Conference dual of the semester, although a 10-0 lead wasn't safe from an onslaught by the VMI Keydets on Thursday night which led to a 29-10 defeat.
Brayden Adams,
Tyler Rodier, and
Ryan Luna got the Blue Hose off to their best start of any league encounter this winter, claiming three straight W's by an added total of 25-5.
However, a 149-pound forfeit segued into an unstoppable VMI flurry from that point, collecting two major decisions, two technical falls, and six wins in a row altogether to flip the match in a 180-degree turn.
With Thursday's result, PC falls to 2-13 on the season and an unfortunate 0-8 against SoCon adversaries. The Scotsmen could not muster a victory away from Clinton this year in eight attempts.
Luna's four-point decision in the third bout was the junior's ninth win of the year (second on the club behind classmate
Caleb Roe), although VMI morphed a suboptimal beginning into a double-digit triumph when the dust had settled.
