CLINTON, S.C. – In a Tuesday afternoon tussle between two schools separated by over 1,300 miles, the Presbyterian College softball team couldn't overcome a tough start against the South Dakota Coyotes and ended up on the wrong end of a 10-1 five-inning decision.
The offense was fluid for both clubs on a picture-perfect midweeker, with the Blue Hose gaining seven hits and finding at least one base-runner in every inning. However, a seven-spot in the top of the 3
rd from USD inflated the scoreboard to a point where PC couldn't recover.
Both starting pitchers came into the contest with the same record (
Peyton Duncan versus Clara Edwards who were 7-4 apiece), and although the Scotsmen saw three doubles by
Kendall Owens,
Mallory Fletcher, and
Maddi Wood, the aforementioned 3
rd-inning created enough cushion for the Coyotes.
South Dakota's last five victories have involved the other side scoring one or being shut out, dropping Presbyterian to 13-11 on the campaign.
PC's lone run of the day came from leadoff freshman
Baxleigh Arnette, driving home Wood on a 5
th-frame base hit up the middle.
