Daniella Velez Earns Prestigious Kay Yow Servant Leader Award

Raleigh, N.C. – Sophomore guard Daniella Velez of the Presbyterian Blue Hose women's basketball earned the prestigious Kay Yow Servant Leader award. Velez is one of a select few women's basketball players in the nation across all divisions of college basketball to earn this impressive honor.

"We are really proud of Daniella for this recognition," said Presbyterian Coach Tiffany Sardin. "She continues to show us daily that she stands for her family and this program, and she really is the epitome of a servant leader. This honor is not only great recognition for Daniella but for Presbyterian College as a whole."

The Kay Yow Servant Leader Award honors the enduring legacy of Coach Kay Yow, who bravely battled breast cancer for 22 years while inspiring others to create positive change. Presented annually, the award recognizes student-athletes who exemplify Yow's core values of servant leadership, selflessness, and unwavering commitment both on and off the court.

Recipients of the Servant Leader Award are people of great character who put the needs of others before their own, who uplift others, and who do it with grace and humility. They are nominated by their coach, and are leaders who exemplify Coach Yow's spirit and who reflect her resolve, grace, generosity, and servant's heart.

Recipients of the award will be recognized by a special patch that they will wear on their uniform jerseys this season.
