PRINCETON, N.J. – Event number one of the brand-new season for the third-ranked Presbyterian College women's wrestling team was an all-around success, as the Blue Hose won three individual titles and featured 10 placers of bronze or better at the Princeton Open on Sunday.

Sophomore Zoe Griffith captured her second career championship in class 138, while reigning All-Americans Maria Aiono (207) and May Cuyler (160) followed suit to complete the gold trifecta.

PC earned four runner-up designations in the first tourney of the campaign, with three others ending in third. Of the 19 wrestlers who competed at Princeton, 14 of them finished in the top four of their respective weight class.

Beginning the new season with a school record team ranking, Presbyterian impressed in the northeast with 31 total victories by pin.

Griffith, Aiono, and Cuyler combined to go 12-0 collectively on their way to the championship, with all but one of those matches being decided by either pin or technical fall.

The Blue Hose are just getting started in a busy November lineup, sending half of the roster to North Carolina this weekend for the Trojan Open at Mount Olive while others will participate in the third annual "Throwdown on the Yorktown" duals aboard an active military battleship.

NOTABLES

- Presbyterian has started a season at the Princeton Open twice in the last three years, winning seven total championships from six different wrestlers on those days.

- Cuyler (who represented Team USA at the U20 Pan-American Championships in Brazil earlier this summer) has posted an 8-0 career record at this particular tournament. The two-time All-American pinned Presley McCandlish of Lock Haven to win the title this time around.

- PC brings back six All-Americans from last season's team that finished 5^th in the nation. Five of those six All-Americans suited up at Princeton and won 20 matches between them.

- Griffith endured a hard-fought title match against Marie Sharp of Blair Academy, lasting nearly four minutes. She also won gold at the Red Lady Open (held at Huntingdon University) back in January.

- The championship encounter in class 207 was contested between two PC wrestlers against each other, as Aiono edged out Grace Leota with a 4-0 standard decision.

- Senior Alyssa Mahan (who holds the school record for most career wins) took down three straight opponents in less than a minute before narrowly dropping the 131-lb. championship match.

- Maddie Kubicki came up just shy in the 145-lb. title bout after becoming the first wrestler in school history to be recognized as an All-American three times, falling at Princeton in a 16-15 doozy.

- Another accomplished senior, Charlee Shuler, dispatched three consecutive foes with little issue before ending in 2^nd against an adversary from Ursinus College.

- Annalise Maralit (103), Anna Ockerman (110), and Isabella Gretzinger (160) all did extremely well in the consolation side of the brackets, each winning their last four matches to pick up the bronze prize.

- Sunday marked the collegiate debut for five PC freshmen: Alexis Stinson, Maddy Keeler, Daylee Watson, Samantha Van der Weken, and Camdyn Elliott. The latter two both finished in the top five for class 110 and 124 respectively.
