CLINTON, S.C. – Holding a high-octane offense completely scoreless for the first five innings of Wednesday night's matchup with SoCon leader Wofford, the Presbyterian College softball team succumbed to a late flurry and came up on the losing side of a 5-1 decision.
Transfer two-way
Avery Robinson – the team-leader in both batting average and ERA – allowed just one hit in 21 at-bats and exited the game with a five-inning shutout.
Wofford's starter was similarly efficient on a night where the bulk of the scoring happened late, as Natalya Salo gave up only three PC hits while throwing the full contest.
Despite the loss, Presby forced the Terriers into their second-lowest scoring effort of the season. The Blue Hose are now 5-4 overall, hitting the road for the first time this weekend against Drexel and George Washington twice each.
FINAL SCORE: Wofford, 5 – Presbyterian, 1
RECORDS: Presbyterian (5-4) – Wofford (9-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Head coach
David Williams' squad lined up the first blow in the 2
nd inning, as Robinson scored on a sacrifice flyball by DP
Audrey Burton.
- In the next frame, Robinson maintained that 1-0 advantage despite facing two runners in scoring position and just one out. She caught Brianna Stanley swinging (who entered the midweeker with a .533 BA) and then drew a flyball to
Sabrina Rose.
- Catcher
Logan Grice also registered a strong defensive play in the 4
th, catching a runner who attempted to steal with a rifle to
Baxleigh Arnette.
- Robinson's last full inning was a 1-2-3 sequence, making her new ERA at an impressive 1.35 in over 20 innings of work.
- The Terriers took the lead in the 6
th with a three-spot, adding two insurance runs in the last stanza.
- Interestingly, there were no extra-base hits throughout the duration of Wednesday's affair. Wofford's runs occurred on a bases-loaded walk, a sac fly, and three singles.
