Williams Wins 150th Game at PC in 12-2 Mercer Blowout

MACON, Ga. – The Presbyterian College softball team finished off a sensational week in the second day of an invitational at Mercer, falling just short against Columbia (6-3) but run-ruling the host school in the follow-up game (12-2) on Sunday afternoon.

Head coach David Williams – the program's all-time winningest coach in season number eight – acquired his 150th victory at PC in the Mercer beatdown. The Blue Hose poured in 10 runs over the last three innings.

Less than 24 hours removed from two shutouts over Columbia and Tennessee State, the offense was the show-stealer on Sunday as Presby has now won five of their past six matchups.

The non-conference gauntlet will roll on for the Blue Hose when they return home this Tuesday, entertaining Queens for a 2:00 twinbill. ESPN+ will have full coverage of both contests.

NOTABLES

- The youth movement for Williams' lineup has been ultra consistent 18 games into the year, as lead-off third-baseman Cierra Grice (a true freshman) batted a very impressive 13-of-21 this week on an .857 slugging percentage.

- Her infield classmate, Hali Duke, was equally as hot over those six games with a team-best nine RBI, three doubles, and a .526 effort at the plate.

- Still the best ERA in the entire Big South (1.83), junior Avery Robinson completed a 3-0 week on her end by pitching all 10 innings of the past two days' run rules over Columbia and Mercer.

- In possession of a modest 5-2 lead going into the 4th, the Blue Hose exploded in the Mercer win and wrapped up the tournament on a 7-0 run. That included a bases-clearing double by senior first-baseman Blair Darby.

- Robinson and Peyton Duncan each struck out 16 batters this week (nine total on Sunday). Grice, Duke, and Robinson have 31 hits between them over the last five days.

GAME ONE: Columbia def. Presbyterian, 6-3

- PC stomped the Lions on Saturday with an 8-0 mercy rule, but Columbia countered in the rematch with a 6th-inning grand slam that engulfed a one-run deficit.

- Duke and Robinson batted in three runs in the 3rd on back-to-back base hits, but the Blue Hose were held scoreless in the other six innings as Columbia took the late lead.

- After the grand slam with two frames left, Duke was the only PC player to reach base on her fifth walk this week. Duncan took the loss in 5.2 innings of action.

GAME TWO: Presbyterian def. Mercer, 12-2 (Five Innings)

- Mercer did themselves no favors in what was a lopsided Blue Hose victory, the third time in 2026 that coach Williams' gang won by at least eight runs and the fourth occasion with double-digits in the scoring column.

- Incredibly, five of PC's first six runs were assisted by a Mercer error. The other came on a bases-loaded walk that was drawn by transfer Avery Fielden.

- Ahead by a 7-2 count after numerous mistakes by the Bears, Presbyterian smelled blood in the water and pushed the lead to six on an Audrey Burton sac fly.

- Darby put the run-rule in play with the three-score double, her sixth extra-base swing of the semester. Burton logged another RBI in the 5th on a base hit, settling the final margin at 12-2.

- Robinson allowed only three hits to put her weekly ERA at a solid 2.44. She retired the last seven batters to seal the deal and give her team its 11th victory.
