ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Junior 184-pounder
Reed Douglass of the Presbyterian College men's wrestling team became the second athlete in school history to advance to the Southern Conference Championship match on Friday night, but had to settle for being runner-up in Saturday's title bout.
Presbyterian finished the bracket in 9
th place as a unit while Douglass came up short against top-seed Tomas Brooker of Appalachian State, falling via 12-3 major decision.
Christian Anderson and
Brandon Jacoby (157 and 165, respectively) both qualified for the consolation quarterfinals, although their runs stopped there against Chattanooga and Davidson.
Douglass was one victory away from a 10-0 SoCon record and receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA National Championships later this month in Cleveland, but will now have to wait in hopes of a possible at-large bid which will be announced in the future.
App State captured the overall team title at the SoCon tournament, followed closely by UTC and Bellarmine who comprised the rest of the top three.
