Brian Reese, formerly Vanderbilt University's associate director of student athletics, has been named the new director of athletics at Presbyterian College.
PC president
Dr. John Griffith made the announcement on Monday, April 5, following a
national search that attracted more than 80 candidates.
"I am
enormously pleased to announce that Brian Reese has agreed to serve as our new
director of athletics," Griffith said. "His experience at Vanderbilt
underscores the importance we place on academics for our student-athletes and
we believe he will be a perfect fit for our community."
Reese has
served at Vanderbilt since 2002, when he first joined the school's athletics
staff as director of football operations. In 2004, he was named director of
sports operations at the university before being named associate director of
student-athletics in 2008.
Prior to
joining the athletics staff at Vanderbilt, Reese was the head athletic trainer
at Furman University from 1995 to 2002 and assistant director of sports
medicine at the Citadel from 1989 to 1995.
He is a 1986
graduate of Grand Valley State College in Allendale, Mich., where he earned a
bachelor's degree in physical education. He also earned a master's degree in
athletic administration from the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma in 1989.
Reese has
personal ties to PC; his wife attended PC while his brothers-in-law - Michael
and William - were respective members of the Blue Hose football and baseball
teams. During visits to campus both with family and as part of his job, Reese
said he felt attuned to how special a place PC is.
"Presbyterian
College has a great tradition of putting academics first for
student-athletes," he said. "When the job opened, I went after it
knowing this was a good environment to live and work in. After meeting people
here - the coaches, student-athletes, faculty, and the community - I knew this
is where I wanted to be. There is so much potential here for us to have great
success in Division I and doing it with honor. I'm grateful and humbled to be
selected."
Reese
follows Dr. William "Bee" Carlton, who served his alma mater as AD
for six years.
Reese and
his wife, Tricia, have three children. He began his full-time duties as
director of athletics on July 1.
