Mark Berger

Mark Berger is in his first season as an Assistant Coach at Presbyterian.  Berger replaces Ronny Fisher, who left his position as Associate Head Coach with the Blue Hose men’s basketball program to take over the women’s basketball program at PC in April of 2008.

Berger comes to the Blue Hose after a two-year stint as the head coach at Western Texas Junior College.  After 13 years of being disbanded, Berger helped to restart the program in the 2006-07 season.

In only his second season in 2007-08, Berger showed the benefits of all his hard work in the major rebuilding process by leading the Westerners to an 18-11 record and a fifth place finish in the tough WJCAC, which is regarded by most as one of the toughest Junior College conferences in the United States.

Berger showed that his coaching prowess did not just translate to the hardwood during his time at Texas Western as he recruited four top 400 players.  Prior to taking over the Texas Western program, Berger worked two seasons as an assistant coach under Pat Rafferty at Grayson Community College in Denison, Texas. Berger was part of the staff that led Grayson to the NJCAA Regional Tournament during the 2003-04 season. Grayson’s 2004 squad finished the season ranked second among all junior colleges in team defense.  Berger also worked as an Associate Head Coach at Wilmington College in Ohio. Berger helped lead Wilmington to a school record 20 wins during his second season with the program.

Berger is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati where he holds a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice.

Berger was a student manager and coach with the Bearcats during his five years at the school, working under highly regarded head coach Bob Huggins.  During his time with the nationally-ranked Cincinnati program, Berger had the chance to work with future NBA players Kenyon Martin, Dermarr Johnson, Ruben Patterson and Danny Fortson.

After Cincinnati, Berger left to serve as an Assistant Coach at Mount Union College in Ohio. He coached Mount Union’s junior varsity team to a 13-2 record during his one season with the program.

Berger holds a Masters of Management degree from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Berger is married to the former Carrie Hennessee of Ringling, OK.
