One of the most prolific hitters in the program's DI era, Shelby Petik finished her third year as an assistant coach with the Presbyterian College softball team in 2021. She previously served as a volunteer assistant with the program during the 2016 season.

The 2021 season saw the Blue Hose collect seven wins in Big South Conference play, its most since 2017. Presbyterian also earned the first two Big South Freshman of the Week awards in program history, as Jillian Hewes and Kaitlyn Tucker were each honored. Tucker was also named to the league's All-Freshman Team.

In each of her first two seasons back at PC, the Blue Hose improved their win total over the prior campaign. In 2019, Presbyterian made a seven-win jump over 2018, and the 2020 season saw an improvement of five more wins, despite the 2020 campaign getting cut short before the beginning of conference play. PC's .667 winning percentage in 2020 (16-8) was on pace to be the best in the program's DI era.

The 2019 team featured Jonnie Petree and Kiley Kross, who Petik helped to earn selections to the Second Team All-Big South and Big South All-Freshman teams, respectively.

From Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Petik previously served as an assistant at both Furman and Coker. She helped lead Furman to a 41-15 record in 2018, and Coker to a 41-17 mark in 2017.

Petik started every game during her four-year playing career at PC, during which she broke the program's DI era career records for doubles, home runs, RBIs, total bases, walks and games played. Her 208 games played and 85 walks are still DI era career records, while her 40 doubles are tied for the career record.

A multiple Big South Player of the Week and All-Conference honoree, Petik spent all four years in the top-five on the team in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, runs scored, hits and RBIs. She eclipsed 100 hits (180), 100 RBIs (122) and 100 runs (100) to become the first Blue Hose to reach the milestone in all three categories.

A member of the Provost and Dean's Lists, as well as the Psi Chi Honor Society, Petik graduated from PC in May of 2015 with a degree in Psychology. She then completed a master's degree in collegiate athletic administration at Coker College in 2017.
