Summary

Biography

Simon Whitaker is in his seventh year at PC and his fifth as Associate Director of Athletics for Sports Information and Game Operations after spending two years as Assistant AD.

 

Whitaker came to PC after spending 12 years at the College of Charleston as Associate Director of Athletics Communications.

 

Whitaker, who oversees a full-time staff of one and a student part-time game staff of 20, initiated the development of PC’s mobile web site, as well as the mobile app, launched in 2015. He also oversaw the development of the Blue Hose campaign to celebrate the centennial of football and men’s basketball in 2013, which included the production of a commemorative logo, launch of a special web site, as well as other endeavors devoted to promoting history of the two programs.

 

Whitaker has overseen the overhaul of the video services department, more than doubling the yearly live events broadcast from roughly 45 to almost 100 the past four seasons. He has improved the quality as well with an improved graphics package and multiple camera angles, becoming one of the first in the Big South Conference to utilize a centerfield camera for baseball and softball.

 

During Whitaker's tenure at Charleston, he served at one time or another as the primary contact for many of the Cougars' 20 sports, including basketball, tennis, golf, volleyball, soccer and softball. He also oversaw a game-staff of 20 individuals, which included their scheduling and other administrative responsibilities.


The Charleston, S.C. native was also the webmaster for the College of Charleston athletic web site, which included content management and troubleshooting.


Whitaker served as Media Coordinator for several Southern Conference golf, soccer, volleyball and tennis championships and also was the Assistant Media Coordinator for the ESPN/Charleston Classic, a men's basketball tournament hosted at the Carolina First Arena.

 

Prior to working at the College of Charleston Whitaker, who graduated from Wofford College in 1997, spent a year as the Media Relations/Internet Intern at the Southern Conference.

 

Whitaker is married to the former Megan Trimpe of Bloomington, Ill.  She is the Coordinator of Academic Services and Assistant Director of NCAA Compliance at PC. They reside in Clinton.
