Corey Mullins begins his third season as assistant women's basketball coach.
In the second year under Mullins, the Blue Hose won eight of its last 11 Big South Conference games and earned their first ever win in the Big South Conference Championship tournament. Mullins also helped PC rank second in the NCAA in scoring defense, holding opponents to 53.5 points per game, and the Blue Hose led the Big South in field goal percentage defense, three-point field goal percentage defense and rebounding defense.
In his first season on staff, the Blue Hose finished the season with a 19-12 record and a 14-4 marker in the Big South, finishing in a tie for second place in the league. The record marked the team’s highest win total in Division I and highest finish since joining the Big South in 2007-08.
Mullins helped the team earn a trip to the Women’s Basketball Invitational to face Lamar in Port Arthur, Texas, the team’s first postseason game since taking on Virginia State in the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2002. PC boasted the league’s best field goal percentage (43.2 overall, 46.1 percent conference-only) in the conference. The Blue Hose also led in three-point field goal percentage (38.7 overall, 41.9 percent conference-only) and ranked second in field goal percentage defense (35.2 percent) and rebounding defense (32.5 rebounds allowed) in conference-only statistics.
Mullins arrives at PC after two seasons as the head women's basketball coach at Covenant (Ga.) College. In his second year, Mullins improved on his first year's win total as the Scots played their first campaign as Great South Athletic Conference members. The new Blue Hose assistant guided the program to a three-way tie for sixth place, helped the program secure an All-Freshman Team selection and presided over six All-Academic Team selections, second-most in the league.
Prior to his time at Covenant, Mullins served as the head men's coach at Kentucky Christian University. He led the Knights to a 36-29 overall record and an NCCAA Mid-East region tournament championship in 2009, as well as frequent rankings in the NCCAA top 10 during both seasons.
Mullins arrived at Kentucky Christian by way of Boyce College in Louisville, Ky., where he took over as the head coach in only the second season of the program's history. Mullins led the team to a 6-21 season before leaving to join Kentucky Christian's staff.
The Blue Hose assistant began his coaching career at Bryan College, in Dayton, Tenn. Mullins served as an assistant on the women's side and guided the Lady Lions to four consecutive NAIA national tournaments (2003-2007) and a trip to the sweet sixteen in 2006. Bryan also won the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) tournament in 2005 and the AAC regular season in 2006 and 2007 during Mullins' tenure.
Mullins graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 2003 with a degree in business education and is working toward a master's degree in Sports Science and Management through the US Sports Academy. Mullins and his wife Carrie and three son: Grady (4), Tate (2) and Levi (six months).
