CLINTON, S.C. - Presbyterian College senior center Johann Collins (Raleigh, N.C.) scored a game-high 24 points including 14 after intermission to lead the Blue Hose to a 83-66 victory over the Yellow Jackets of Allen University in men's college basketball action Wednesday night at the Ross E. Templeton Center.
The Blue Hose shot a blistering 77.3% from the field in the second half (17-of-22) to pull away the Yellow Jackets. Collins hit eight-of-10 field goals and was a perfect eight-for-eight at the line on the night.
The Yellow Jackets (0-5) kept the game close in the first by hitting four-of-12 three-point fields goals and pulled down 10 offensive rebounds to only trail 39-34 at intermission. Sophomore guard Karega Tucker (Miami, Fla.) led Allen with nine first half points. The Blue Hose shot 56.5% from the field before halftime and were led by Collins' 10 points and four boards.
PC (3-1) opened the second half on a 17-7 run to extend the lead to double figures and were never threatened the rest of the game. The Yellow Jackets, who shot .43.3% from the field after halftime, could not keep up with the red-hot shooting of the Blue Hose.
Joining Collins for scoring honors was freshman Bryan Bostic (Norcross, Ga.) who came off the bench to score 15 points and added three steals while sophomore guard Pat Kiscaden (Oviedo, Fla.) chipped in 16 points and six assists on four-of-seven shooting from three-point land.
Allen was led by freshman guard Rodney Washington (Broxton, Ga.) who led four in double figures with 14 points while Tucker added 13 points. Freshman forward Javon Stanford (Providence, RI) chipped in 12 points and nine boards while junior forward Michael Gamble (Douglas, Ga.) added 10 points.
