RADFORD, Va.- Presbyterian College completed a two-match road trip against Big South Conference falling to Radford 27-30, 14-30 and 31-33. The Blue Hose now stand at 15-9 overall, with three games on the horizon against Big South competition over the next 10 days. Meanwhile Radford moves to 7-15 on the season.
Senior Lauren Mason finished with a team-high 12 kills, while sharing the digs honor of 14 with teammate Elizabeth Heineman.
Tied at 24-24 deep into the third game, Radford seized a timeout to score back-to-back points, before a two Kelsey McKee digs kept the lead at one. Behind Elizabeth Heineman the Blue Hose continued to get timely kills, including a blocks by Justine Lanchester that opened up a 29-27 lead. Radford scored each of the following two points to lock the game at 29-29, following an attack error on the Blue Hose defense. The Highlanders closed out the final two points of the game on points from an attack error and a kill at net for the 33-31 final.
Closing the first game with a flurry, Radford opened the second with four consecutive points, before PC rallied behind the three Mason kills to tie the game at 7-7. The Highlanders drove out themselves in front with a 14-3 run, halted by a Mason kill. Trailing 21-11, the front row of Swain, McKee and Kettles again stepped up for PC, however it was not enough in the 30-14 Highlanders victory.
Amanda Davis' service game opened the match strong for Presbyterian, giving the Blue Hose an early 3-1 lead forcing two errors along with a Mason kill. The Highlanders grabbed the momentum before the game reached two ties, the latter coming at 11-11. PC regained the lead, taking a three-point advantage at 15-12 on an Ashley Dunlap serve, before the game reached a fifth an final tie. Knotted at 17-17, Radford managed a 6-2 run that gave them control of the game, with Lindsey Rupert serving. PC kept the score within striking distance behind kills by Swain, McKee and Kettles before Radford captured the 30-27 win.
Presbyterian College will continue its road matches beginning at High Point on Oct. 19 with a start time slated for 7 p.m.
