Cope Nets Second Straight Game Winner

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. ? Presbyterian College's Bennett Cope picked up his second straight game-winning goal in PC's 2-1 overtime victory over the Jacksonville Dolphins at the Ashley Sports Complex on Friday evening.

Cope scored the game-winner in the 93rd-minute when Brandon Tucker (Englewood, Colo.) found an unmarked Cope (Mobile, Ala.) in the box. The senior took advantage of the cross, heading the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net.

Cope's second goal of the year capped an improbable game-winning four-minute span for the Blue Hose.

The Dolphins looked as if they would send PC away with a shutout loss as Anton Axelsson's goal in the 65th-minute had JU on top for almost the entire second half.

The resilient Blue Hose would not give up though with Jonathan Edmonds (Aurora, Colo.) willing the Blue Hose to the tie in the 90th and final minute when he headed the ball in from six yards out off a cross from Siega Disasa (Laurens, S.C.).

The equalizer sent the two teams into overtime and Cope's goal came just 2:44 seconds into the first overtime period.

Mark Owens (Charleston, S.C.) played the entire 92:44 between the pipes for the Blue Hose, saving seven JU shots.

The victory gives the Blue Hose their first winning streak of the season as they have now beaten two straight Atlantic Sun opponents in Gardner-Webb and Jacksonville, who came into the match with the Blue Hose in first in the A-Sun standings.

The Blue Hose are now 3-9-1 on the season, while the loss drops the Dolphins to 7-6-1 on the year.

PC will have one day off before traveling just down the road to face off against their third straight A-Sun opponent in North Florida at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21.
