ASHEVILLE, N.C.- Sharie Hopkins scored a game-high tying 16 points, however it was not enough as Presbyterian College came up short in a 87-54 loss to UNC Asheville in women's basketball action at the Justice Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Blue Hose dropped to 1-8 on the season with the loss, while Asheville improved to 5-4 with the victory over the Blue Hose.
Hopkins (Chesapeake, Va.), who grabbed five rebounds in 18 minutes of action, converted 8-of-13 shots from the field in the game.
Teammate Amy Jones (Warthen, Ga.) added 13 points to join Hopkins as the only Blue Hose in double figures. Jones hit three three-pointers against UNCA and ended her efforts on the day with a team-best six assists.
On the glass, Bridget Takach (Chapin, S.C.) and Kristin Kidd (Valdese, N.C.) led PC in rebounding with six boards each.
Asheville had six players reach the double figures plateau with Lindsey Montgomery recording a double-double and sharing game-high honors with Hopkins with 16 points. Montgomery concluded the game with 15 rebounds.
Stacy Shepard (13 points and 13 rebounds) and Kyla Jones (10 points and 10 rebounds) also recorded double-doubles. Rounding out double figure scorers for UNCA were Ashton Barton (13), Ana Baker (11) and Arescia Moore (10).
The Lady Blue Hose converted 32.8 percent of their shots from the field in the loss, while the Bulldogs shot 44.9 percent from the field.
Hopkins led the Lady Blue Hose in scoring at the break with 12 points.
The Blue Hose now have just over a week off for exams before returning to the court at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 for a game against 2006-07 NCAA Division I tournament participant West Virginia at WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, W.V.
