Blue Hose Battle Georgia In Tough Loss

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Presbyterian College fought hard with unbeaten Southeastern Conference opponent Georgia, falling 30-15, 30-23 and 30-24.

Strong showings from Lauren Mason (10 kills, seven digs), Elizabeth Heineman (11 digs), Justine Lanchester (nine kills) helped pace the Blue Hose. Up front, Presbyterian also got four kills each from freshmen Amanda Kettles and Heather Swain to complete the rotation.

With a crowd that included the women's soccer team, the Blue Hose (0-4) saved their best performance for the third game, where they led the Bulldogs (5-0) on two occasions by two points. A Kelsey McKee kill, followed by an attack error by Georgia, gave PC a 7-5 advantage. The Bulldogs followed with a 9-4 run before two errors, sandwhiched between a Lauren Mason kill, drew the lead within three at 14-12. Presbyterian continued to battle, allowing Georgia a six-point advantage at the 22-16 mark. A spurt, which included a Mason kill and Georgia errors, sliced the lead three at 25-22 prior to the Bulldogs closing out the game at 30-24.

Presbyterian continued to show promise in the second game, battling back from a 30-15 loss in game one, taking advantage of the Bulldogs in the early going. After a series of errors, along with kills by Amanda Kettles and Mason at opportune moments, the Blue Hose drew within 13-8. With Amanda Davis serving PC recorded four straight points, relying on one another to get kills by Justine Lanchester, Mason and Rachel Davis, along with a Davis service ace to pull within two points. Georgia countered by netting eight points and assuming a 22-16 advantage. PC drew within striking distance at 25-21 before the Bulldogs closed out the game for a 30-23 final.
