Two In A Row

JACKSONVIILLE, Fla.- Perserverance might be the word to best describe the Presbyterian College volleyball match-up with Jacksonville. In a five game match, after battling through a tough loss in game four, the Blue Hose earned their first Division I road match in dramatic 30-24, 23-30, 31-29, 19-30 and 15-12 fashion.

A host of players contributed to the second straight Blue Hose victory in as many games, led by a Lauren Mason 33 kill, 16 dig showing. Rachel Lewis (12) and Amanda Davis (15) recorded double-figure performances in digs. Up front, Kelsey McKee and Amanda Kettles added 10 and 11 kills respectively.

Overcoming a fourth game loss by a 30-19 margin and trailing 9-7 following two service aces by the Dolphins (1-5), PC answered with kills by Kettles and Lanchester to knot the game at 10-10. Falling behind for the final time in the next point, Mason put PC ahead to stay with a kill and the twelfth point of the contest. With Justine Lanchester serving, three consecutive attack errors put Jacksonville in a three point hole, before PC clinched the game 15-12.

The two teams battled tough in game three, extending the match, with Presbyterian emerging with the 31-29 win. Solid serves by freshman Ashley Dunlap allowed PC to tie the game at 28-28 on a kill by Rachel Lewis. Dunlap followed with a service ace, before Jacksonville would knot the game for the final time on the next point. Setting a match-high 15 ties, five coming in the final 10 points, Justine Lanchester recorded a kill to give PC a one-point advantage. With Amanda Davis serving match point, Mason drove home the kill for the 31-29 win.
