ROCK HILL, S.C.?In front of a record crowd of 611 people at Winthrop Coliseum, the Presbyterian College volleyball team pushed the Eagles to four sets before ultimately dropping the match 20-25, 11-25, 25-21, 20-25.
PC fought back from a 7-1 deficit in the first set to trail by one, 18-17. It wasn't enough to turn the momentum and the Blue Hose eventually dropped the set 25-20. The Eagles lead the entire second half.
Winthrop jumped to an early five point lead in the third set but the Blue Hose caught up quickly. They earned a one point lead at 12-11 and never looked back. The Eagles made a late run to bring the score to 24-19, but PC held on won the set, 25-21.
PC jumped to an early 7-4 lead in the fourth set before Winthrop tied the score at 7-7. Behind two service aces by Amanda Davis (Tallahassee, Fl./Leon) PC took a 10-7 lead before Winthrop managed to gather momentum and the lead, resulting in a 25-20 win to end the match.
The Blue Hose were lead by Lisa Shelley's (Columbia, S.C./Blythewood) 11 kills and 14 digs. Freshman Lindsey Harris (Greenville, S.C./Eastside) chipped in eight kills, while Elizabeth Heineman (Normal, Ill./Normal Community West) recorded 12 digs.
PC travels to Asheville, N.C. to face UNC Asheville on Tuesday, Oct. 7 in a Big South conference matchup.
