CHARLESTON, S.C.?The Presbyterian College volleyball team rallied after going down 0-2 to steal a set from Charleston Southern, but the momentum wasn't quite enough to deter the Lady Bucs and PC lost the match 3-1 (19-25, 17-25, 27-25, 21-25).
Lisa Shelley (Columbia, S.C./Blythewood) led the Blue Hose with a double-double, 14 kills and 13 digs in the four set loss. Amanda Kettles (Canton, Ga./Cherokee) chipped in 12 kills and three solo blocks, while Ashley Dunlap (Greenville, S.C./Greenville) collected 11 digs. PC falls to 6-9 in Big South action and 10-19 overall.
After dropping the first two sets, the Blue Hose jumped out to an early 5-3 lead in the third set. Both teams traded points until Charleston Southern broke away and took a 15-10 lead. Despite being down by five points, PC battled back and tied the score at 20-20, and then took the lead on a service ace by Kettles.
After trading points, the Blue Hose took a 23-22 lead on a Charleston Southern hitting error. The Lady Bucs forced a side out and had a chance at match point, but PC answered with a kill by Shelley to tie the score at 24-24. Again facing match point after a Charleston Southern side out, Kelsey McKee (Greenville, S.C./Eastside) put down a kill to even the score at 25-25. A Lady Bucs hitting error gave the Blue Hose their first set point, and they didn't look back on their way to a 27-25 victory in the third set.
Both teams exchanged points early in the fourth set and saw ties at 5-5 and 10-10. The Lady Bucs started to pull away, but a kill by Shelley kept the Blue Hose within three points as they trailed 16-19. After trading a few more points, a kill from McKee would pull PC to being down by only one at 20-21. Charleston Southern responded to the Blue Hose rally and scored two points before a kill by Kettles closed the gap and brought the score to 21-23. However, the Lady Bucs closed out the set to win the match 25-21.
Charleston Southern was led by Amanda Hill's 21 kills and Tricia Rodl's 20 digs. The Lady Bucs improve to 4-11 in conference action and 15-17 overall with the win.
