, Va. ? Jonathan Edmonds tallied a goal in the final game of his career to help guide Presbyterian College's men's soccer team to a 2-2 tie with Big South Conference foe VMI. The match against VMI was the final match of the year for PC.
The Blue Hose conclude their 2008 campaign with a 2-14-3 record. The positive result picked up against the Keydets ends PC's first season in the Big South Conference with the Blue Hose owning a record of 0-6-2.
All four of the goals in the game came in the second half. Edmonds (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) acquired the first goal of the game in the 46th-minute when he scored off a blast into the upper right corner from 15 yards out. He was assisted on the play by fellow senior and Aurora, Colo. native Tommy Rodriquez.
The Rodriquez assist allowed the senior to end his playing career at PC with the Blue Hose never falling in a game in which he tallied a goal or an assist. Rodriquez finished his career with seven goals and four assists, while Edmonds scored seven goals for the Blue Hose during his career.
The Keydets tied the game at 1-1 just over 20 minutes later when Brian Harding scored his fourth of the year.
Sam Eastridge (Kingsport, Tenn./Dobyns-Bennett) placed PC ahead by one again at the 72:21 mark when he scored on an assist from Nick Whicker (Collierville, Tenn./St. George's). Harding then scored his second goal of the contest for VMI (2-13-1) on a tip-in from three yards out in the 86th-minute to send the game into overtime.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the extra frames.
The Blue Hose heavily outshot the Keydets in the game, 29-16. The Blue Hose had double-digit shot attempts in both the first and second halves. PC took 10 shots in the first half and 16 shots in the second half.
PC had two more corner kicks (11-9) than the Keydets in the tie. The two teams combined for 38 fouls with VMI committing 20 of the fouls.
