HIGH POINT, N.C.?The Presbyterian College men's basketball team won their third consecutive road game and advance to 2-0 in Big South action after a dominating 70-53 performance over High Point on Dec. 6. Al'Lonzo Coleman (Charlotte, N.C./Vance) led the Blue Hose with a double-double, 18 points and 14 rebounds in the win over the Panthers.
The Blue Hose started the game on a 10-0 run and held High Point scoreless for the first five minutes of play. Josh Johnson (Hendersonville, Tenn./Hendersonville) sank a three pointer to start the scoring run, and the PC defense forced two steals and one five second violation to stop High Point from putting points on the board until the 14:41 mark.
PC retained the lead for the remainder of the half, taking a 10 point advantage with seven minutes left off of a three pointer by Kevin Davis (Charlotte, N.C./Ardrey Kell). The Blue Hose pushed the lead to 11 points after Pierre Miller's (Warner Robbins, Ga./Warner Robbins) first three of the half at 1:57.
High Point's Eugene Harris hit a basket to bring the score to 28-20 with a minute remaining in the first half, but Bryan Bostic (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) answered with a three pointer to put the Blue Hose back on top by 11 at 31-20.
PC ended the first half on a three pointer by Miller after taking the ball the length of the floor. Miller's basket with two seconds remaining gave the Blue Hose a 34-20 lead heading into the locker room.
PC's 34 points at halftime ties the most points the Blue Hose have scored in the first half this season, matching the 34 points they scored against Clemson. The Blue Hose were 12 of 23 from the field, including five shots from behind the line in the first half.
To start the second half both teams traded baskets, including a fast break layup by Al'Lonzo Coleman (Charlotte, N.C./Vance) to put PC up 40-24 at 15:15. High Point then outscored PC 4-0, but one of Bostic's three three pointers of the second half stopped the Panthers run with the Blue Hose still on top 43-28.
PC increased their lead by as much as 24 points in the second half, and was up 60-40 with five minutes left in the game. High Point scored six points in the last two minutes, but couldn't catch the Blue Hose as they rolled to a 70-53 victory.
Along with Coleman's 18 points and 14 rebounds, Bostic recorded 14 points and three steals. Johnson chipped in 13 points and Aaron Gibbs (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) had one of PC's two blocks. The Blue Hose shot 52.3 percent from the field on the game, and 50 percent from behind the three point line. By earning wins over Coastal and High Point PC is a perfect 2-0 in conference action and advances to 4-4 overall on the year.
High Point had three players with eight points each, and David Campbell grabbed 13 rebounds. The Panthers drop to 0-2 in Big South play and 3-5 overall with the loss.
The Blue Hose end their five game road swing on Dec. 14 when they travel to Tulsa, Okla. to take on Tulsa. PC is riding a three game road winning streak, and they tip-off at 1 p.m. (CT)
