CULLOWHEE, N.C.? Presbyterian College's volleyball team split the first two games of this weekend's ?Catamount Clash," hosted by Western Carolina. The Blue Hose bounced back from a disappointing 3-0 loss to Arkansas State to win their second match over Norfolk State, 3-1.

PC (3-6) met Arkansas State in the first game of the tournament on Friday afternoon. The Red Wolves held the Blue Hose to a .189 hitting percentage and 25 kills over three sets (16-25, 19-25, 15-25). Despite the offensive struggles, PC recorded five blocks to ASU's four. Sophomore Amanda Kettles (Canton, Ga./Cherokee) and senior Heather Swain (Woodruff, S.C./Southside Christian) led the team with six kills apiece, while setter Rachel Lewis (Bloomington, Ill./Tri-Valley) tallied 15 assists.

 
The Blue Hose had more success in their second game, where they claimed the first two sets against Norfolk State 25-20 and 25-15. The Spartans collected themselves in the third set in a 35-21 victory to force a fourth set. Behind the serving of senior Justine Lanchester (Downs, Ill./Tri-Valley) and sophomore libero Elizabeth Heineman (Normal, Ill./Normal Community West), PC overcame a five-point deficit to tie the game at 20. Sophomore Lisa Shelley (Columbia, S.C./Blythewood) punctuated the match with a kill to give the Blue Hose their third victory of the season.  

Swain led the team's offense with 13 kills against Norfolk State while Shelley added nine. Heineman recorded 17 digs over four sets.

PC takes on host Western Carolina on Saturday at 2 p.m. to conclude the ?Catamount Clash.'
