COLUMBIA, S.C. ? Presbyterian College's Kashif Siddiqi scored the equalizing goal and the Blue Hose tied South Carolina 1-1 on Tuesday evening before 733 fans at Stone Stadium.
With the Blue Hose down 1-0 in the 85th-minute, Siddiqi (London, England/Eckerd College) scored the equalizer to set the game at 1-1 and send the game to overtime. The goal was Siddiqi's first in a Blue Hose uniform.
PC and South Carolina played two 10-minute overtime periods, but neither squad was able to find the game-winner with the game ending in the 1-1 tie.
The tie earns the Blue Hose their first ever positive result with the Gamecocks. Prior to Tuesday's match, PC had never tied or beaten South Carolina. The Gamecocks entered Tuesday's match with a 10-0 record against the Blue Hose. PC (0-1-1) and South Carolina (1-0-1) played last season with the Blue Hose falling 4-0 to the Gamecocks.
The positive result against South Carolina on Tuesday showed PC's strong resolve as the Blue Hose played a man down in the match for the final 82 minutes of the contest including overtime.
The Blue Hose and Gamecocks were scoreless for the first 62 minutes before South Carolina's Sam Arthur scored the first goal of the game in the 63rd-minute. Arthur was assisted by Mario Burstein.
The double overtime match concluded with the Gamecocks shooting 13 more shots in the game than the Blue Hose. PC had seven shots in the contest, while South Carolina finished the game with 20 shots overall.
South Carolina had nine corner kicks in the contest and PC had three. There were a combined 55 fouls in the game with PC being whistled for 32.
Blue Hose goalkeeper Andrew Brandt (Lawrenceville, Ga./Hebron Christian Academy) played all 110 minutes in net for PC in the game, stopping seven South Carolina shots. South Carolina's Jimmy Maurer, who was recently named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in South Carolina's season-opening 2-0 shutout victory over Clemson, made five saves in goal for the Gamecocks.
PC heads to the road once again later this week for a meeting with Georgia State at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6 in Atlanta, Ga.
