Rachel Lewis (Bloomington, Ill./Tri-Valley)
etched her name into the record books on Friday when she became Presbyterian
College's all-time career assist leader in the second match of the day at the
“Bear Brawl” tournament hosted by Mercer University.
Lewis made
her 4,545th set against Auburn
to pass Jenny Frieling, who set the previous record in 1997. Her 22 assists in
the three-set match brought her career total to 4,550. She recorded 34 in the first game of the day
against Mercer.
PC dropped
both matches on the opening day of the Bear Brawl. After winning the first set
against Mercer 25-22, the Blue Hose lost the next three games 19-25, 18-25,
17-25. Junior middle blocker Kelsey McKee (Greenville,
S.C./Eastside) led the team with 12 kills while sophomore Amanda Kettles (Canton, Ga./Cherokee)
added 10. Sophomores Elizabeth Heineman (Normal,
Ill./Normal Community West) and Ashley Dunlap
(Greenville,
S.C./Greenville) combined for 22 digs against the Bears.
In the
team's second match of the day, PC lost a three-set match to Auburn,
16-25, 22-25, 15-25. Lisa Shelley (Columbia,
S.C./Blythewood) recorded nine kills against the Tigers.
The Blue
Hose (0-5) face Bethune Cookman in the first of two matches on Saturday at
11:00 a.m. They close the tournament with their second matchup against Georgia
Southern in two weeks.
