CHARLESTON, S.C. ? The Presbyterian College men's tennis team lost its first two matches of the season Saturday, falling to the College of Charleston and The Citadel.

Both matches were away from the friendly confines of the Templeton Tennis Center.

In the doubles competition, Matthew Martin and Zachary Sprouse fell by an 8-3 count as did Mark Cannatelli and Brad Luciuk. Martin and Sprouse were at the top spot while the other duo played the No. 3 position.

Faring the best out of the bunch was the No. 2 tandem of Michael Nicol and Patrick Fediuk, as they pushed their opponents to an 8-5 score before falling.

In singles action, Fediuk put forth the best performance against the Cougars. At the No. 3 spot, Fediuk fell to Mickael Boyer 6-4, 6-3.

Nicol took three games in each set off No. 2 seed Lukas Koncillia while Sprouse (no. 4 seed) and Luciuk (No. 6 seed) each won two games off their opposition.

In the second match of the day, which came against The Citadel, the Blue Hose almost won the doubles point, but dropped two tight decisions at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Sprouse and Martin teamed up at the No. 1 spot and lost a 9-7 heartbreaker to Ufo Sutantio and Alberto Diaz. At the No. 3 slot, Luciuk and Cannatelli lost their bout by the same margin.

The bright side on the singles side was the newcomer. Playing the fourth position, Sprouse took the first set handily, 6-2. He then repeated the performance in the 6-2 second set victory.

Fediuk, playing in the third spot, pushed Diaz to three sets before succumbing 2-6, 7-6, 6-10. The top seed, Martin, pushed Sutantio to the brink in the second set, but eventually dropped the match 6-4, 7-6.

The Blue Hose return to action on Friday, Feb. 6, when the team plays host to Kennesaw State at 2 p.m.
