Asheville, N.C. ?- After winning the program's first Big South
Conference game on Saturday afternoon against Radford the Presbyterian College
men's soccer team went in search of its first ever league winning streak
against UNC Asheville.? The Blue Hose
scored two early goals but conceded two late en route to a 2-2 draw to the Bulldogs.
"Good first half performance by the team today," said head
coach Bret Boulware.? "Even though we let
them back into the game in the second half, our young squad learned some
valuable lessons that will carry us forward through the rest of the
season.? We could have scored three
points but it's always good to walk away with a point."
The breakthrough came in the 26th minute when Ben
Riedmayer got free on a breakaway down the right side.? He buried the shot for his first goal of his
three year career with the Blue Hose.? He
was assisted by Bobby Keskey, his first of the season.
Ten minutes later in the 36th minute, Michael
Czullinski posted his second goal of the season to move into tie for the team
lead in goals.? Czullinski confused the
goalkeeper and blasted the shot through the keeper's legs and into the goal.?
Even through the Blue Hose ruled the run of play in the
first half; shots were tied 7-7 after the first session with PC delivering six
on frame to UNCA's two.
The Bulldogs clawed the first goal back in the 65th
minute when Zachary Odum got free on a breakaway pass from Bryan George to make
the line 2-1.?
Six minutes from time, Jake Hagedorn leveled the match with
a shot from 25 yards out to best PC's keeper Andrew Wallingford.
The match was sent to overtime where each team tallied a
shot in the pair of extra frames.? The
Blue Hose put the only shot on frame in overtime in the second period.?
Wallingford went the distance for PC making seven saves
while allowing both goals.? Asheville's
Lassi Hurskainen posted an identical line with seven saves in 120 minutes of
work.
The Blue Hose will continue their three game road swing on
Saturday night with a prime-time matchup against High Point.?
