Syracuse, N.Y. - A
strong shooting effort wasn't enough for the Blue Hose women's basketball team
on Monday night as PC fell, 97-56 to the Syracuse Orange at the Carrier
Dome. Three players scored nine points
to lead the Blue Hose who shot a total of 45% from the field.
PC falls to 0-2 on the season while Syracuse improves to 2-0
on the year.
The Blue Hose went down four points in the early going but
rallied back to take the lead off a Kristen Stevens three pointer at the 16:04
mark by a 10-8 margin. PC held the lead through the first
media timeout but it would be the last lead of the evening for the
visitors.
Stevens tallied nine points and two assists in the game to
share the team lead in scoring. Dria
David and Amanda Mills rounded out the trio of players with nine points. David added three assists while Mills
splashed one trey for her 70th career three-point basket.
The Blue Hose were solid in the game's opening and closing
moments as PC won both the first four minutes and the final three minutes. Down the stretch, PC went on a 7-0 run to
keep Syracuse under the century mark to continue the Orange's string of not
posting over 100 points since 1999.
Mariah Pietrowski logged eight points while Joi Holyfield
had six points, both from outside the bonusphere.
24 of the Blue Hose's points came off the bench as all 13
players saw time and 11 scored points.
PC shot 45.3% from the field but it was no match for Syracuse's 55%
field goal percentage.
Monday's game concludes the Blue Hose's first road trip of
the season. The team will return to
Clinton on Tuesday to begin preparations for Friday's road tilt against
Morehead State in the Morehead State Invitational in Morehead, Ky.
