Blue Hose Fall At Winthrop, 50-47

ROCK HILL, S.C. ? The Presbyterian College men's basketball team missed two three-point shots in the final eight seconds of play that would have tied the contest at Winthrop, but the missed attempts gave the Eagles a 50-47 victory Saturday evening in a Big South Conference match-up.

The Blue Hose fall to 10-15 overall and 7-7 in Big South play. The Eagles improve to 7-18 on the year and 6-9 against conference competition.

PC took a two-point lead, 47-45, on Pierre Miller's three-point bucket with 4:01 to play, but the Blue Hose was unable to net any points in the final four minutes of play as both teams struggled to score in the closing minutes of competition.

Leading the way for head coach Gregg Nibert's squad was Al'Lonzo Coleman, who tallied 20 points and a near-career-high 16 rebounds. Senior Bryan Bostic also reached double figures, netting 10 in the game. No other PC student-athlete reached double figures as Pierre Miller had seven, Josh Johnson had five Kevin DavisChase Holmes knocked in a free throw.

The Blue Hose connected on 17-of-45 shots on the day (37.8 percent) while Winthrop canned 19-of-46 shots for 41.3 percent. Usually an important part of the offense, PC struggled to connect from long range, managing just two makes in 12 attempts.

With 9:11 to go in the game, the Blue Hose found themselves down by 10 ? their biggest deficit of the contest. Four straight free throws by Coleman pulled the team within six. Miller's free throw with 5:35 to play cut the deficit to four, 45-41. That started a 7-0 run by the visitors, which culminated with a 47-45 lead for PC.

The Blue Hose battled back all day long, trailing by seven late in the first half, but an 8-1 run to end the period over the final 4:10 meant the teams were all square at the intermission. To start the game, Winthrop jumped out to a 7-0 lead only to see the Blue Hose net the next seven points to tie the game.

PC's largest lead of the game was just three markers, coming with 9:59 to go in the opening stanza. At that point, the Blue hose held an 11-8 lead.

The Blue Hose return to action Monday evening as they host the Keydets of VMI in a crucial Big South Conference game. Tip is slated for 7 p.m.
