DAVIDSON, N.C. - Presbyterian College's bid
to go a perfect 3-0 in Southern Conference play failed as the Blue Hose fell,
5-1 to the Wildcats on Saturday night.
PC equalized in the 33rd minute but four second half goals
doomed the visiting Blue Hose.
The Wildcats (6-5-6)
took an early 1-0 lead on 30 minutes when Thomas Zimmerman scored his first
goal of the season. He shot from
20-yards and had his shot dip just under the crossbar into the net.
Just three
minutes later, PC's (2-11-1) Byron Quinatoa (Columbia, S.C.) scored his first
goal of the season on a redirected free kick.
The goal is the midfielder's first career goal.
After the
teams remained tied through the end of the first half, Davidson re-took the
lead on 66 minutes with a goal off a rebound.
Alex Casey took a shot which was saved by James Neal (_). The rebound went free to Yannick Pilgrim who
scored from seven yards out.
The Wildcats
doubled the advantage in the 73rd minute when Zimmerman scored again
on a shot from 10-yards out. He was
assisted by Chris Pettiglio on the play.
Davidson
immediately pushed forward to score a fourth just 27 seconds after the
kickoff. The goal came from Alex Givens
who scored his second of the season from 20 yards out.
PC lifted Neal
in the 77th minute for sophomore Andrew Wallingford (Atlanta, Ga.). Neal finished the night with three saves and
allowed four goals.
The final goal
of the match came in the 85th minute when Mark Millard chipped the
goalkeeper to score his sixth goal of the season.
Wallingford
finished the night with two saves.
PC was
doubled-up 26-13 in shots with Davidson holding a 10-6 lead in shots on
goal. The Blue Hose won the corners
battle by a 8-2 margin.
The loss drops
PC to 2-1 against SoCon teams after PC downed Furman and Georgia Southern
earlier in the year.
PC returns to
conference play for the final two matches of the season. PC faces Gardner-Webb on Tuesday night. At 7
p.m. in Boiling Springs.
