Men?s Soccer Suffers Non-Conference Loss to Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Presbyterian College's bid to go a perfect 3-0 in Southern Conference play failed as the Blue Hose fell, 5-1 to the Wildcats on Saturday night.  PC equalized in the 33rd minute but four second half goals doomed the visiting Blue Hose.

The Wildcats (6-5-6) took an early 1-0 lead on 30 minutes when Thomas Zimmerman scored his first goal of the season.  He shot from 20-yards and had his shot dip just under the crossbar into the net.

Just three minutes later, PC's (2-11-1) Byron Quinatoa (Columbia, S.C.) scored his first goal of the season on a redirected free kick.  The goal is the midfielder's first career goal.

After the teams remained tied through the end of the first half, Davidson re-took the lead on 66 minutes with a goal off a rebound.  Alex Casey took a shot which was saved by James Neal (_).  The rebound went free to Yannick Pilgrim who scored from seven yards out.

The Wildcats doubled the advantage in the 73rd minute when Zimmerman scored again on a shot from 10-yards out.  He was assisted by Chris Pettiglio on the play.

Davidson immediately pushed forward to score a fourth just 27 seconds after the kickoff.  The goal came from Alex Givens who scored his second of the season from 20 yards out.

PC lifted Neal in the 77th minute for sophomore Andrew Wallingford (Atlanta, Ga.).  Neal finished the night with three saves and allowed four goals.

The final goal of the match came in the 85th minute when Mark Millard chipped the goalkeeper to score his sixth goal of the season.

Wallingford finished the night with two saves.

PC was doubled-up 26-13 in shots with Davidson holding a 10-6 lead in shots on goal.  The Blue Hose won the corners battle by a 8-2 margin.

The loss drops PC to 2-1 against SoCon teams after PC downed Furman and Georgia Southern earlier in the year.

PC returns to conference play for the final two matches of the season.  PC faces Gardner-Webb on Tuesday night. At 7 p.m. in Boiling Springs.
