BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Presbyterian College men's
soccer came out on the short side of 3-0 result on Tuesday night at Gardner-Webb
in the penultimate match of the 2010 season.
The shutout is the first time in the last six matches that the Blue Hose
have not scored a goal.
PC (2-12-1,
0-7 BSC) earned the first shot of the match when Byron Quinatoa's (Columbia,
S.C.) shot was blocked inside the box.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (6-10, 4-3 BSC) took the counter attack down the
pitch.
Christopher
Davis took a shot which was saved by William Redmond (Greenville, S.C.). The rebound came out to Richard Wall who
dished the ball out to Nicolas Wrobel who scored the maiden goal, his seventh
of the season. The goal gave GWU a quick
1-0 lead just 15 minutes into the match.
In the final
minute of the first half, Jordan Archer (Charlotte, N.C.) got free on a
breakaway. His initial shot was saved by
the goalkeeper but the rebound bounced free allowing Ade to take a second shot
which was saved by a defender who made a diving save on the goal line.
The save left
PC behind, 1-0. Shots in the first
period were tied 7-0 with PC holding a 4-3 lead in shots on goal. Corner kicks went 6-2 to the Runnin' Bulldogs
in the first period.
Just three
minutes into the second half, Gardner-Webb went 2-0 up when Wall scored on a
speculative effort that was partially saved by Redmond. The shot from 33 yards popped out of the top
of the senior keeper's hands and went into the net.
GWU's third
came as Chris Davis took a hard shot from the top of the box which went inside
the left post. The goal was scored in
the 74th minute of play.
The Runnin'
Bulldogs held on for the 3-0 win as PC was out-shot 17-3 in the second half.
James Neal
(Powder Springs, Ga.) replaced Redmond in the 55th minute and made
two saves while allowing one goal.
Redmond made five saves and allowed two goals.
PC travels to
VMI for the final match of the season on Saturday at Noon in Lexington, Va.
