CLINTON, S.C. - Presbyterian
College women's basketball rolled to a 74-29 win over Allen University on
Tuesday night. The Blue Hose shot a
season high 57 percent (34-of-60) from the field en route to securing PC's third
straight victory. The win also sets a
new school record for wins in the Division I era as PC improves to 5-17 on the
year.
The victory set new season highs in scoring as PC went over
the 70 point barrier for the first time this season. The margin of victory, 45 points, was PC's
largest since November 20, 2000 when PC downed Erskine, 80-28.
The Blue Hose (5-17, 3-6 BSC) set a season high for points
in a half with 39 points in the game's opening period to take a 39-10 lead into
the locker room. On the other side of
the coin, Allen's (1-20) ten first half points was the fewest PC had allowed in
any half this season.
Freshman Mariah Pietrowski scored 14 in the opening period
and finished the night on 18 points. She
also added seven rebounds in the victory, just missing her second career
double-double.
Senior Lea Smith backed up her 23-point performance from the
corresponding game a year ago with 11 points, her highest total this season. Freshman Shonda Burnside added 10 points to
go along with six rebounds and a career high four steals.
Freshman Dria David had six points while dishing out a
career high seven assists. Fellow freshman
Chelsea Parker tallied seven points.
Sophomore Brittany Brown had six points.
PC moved the ball well in the first half, recording 15
assists on just 18 field goals in the opening 20 stanza. Overall, PC had 22 assists and 34 field goals
overall.
The Blue Hose's three-game winning streak is the longest
since the end of the 2005-06 season when PC rolled to wins over Lenoir-Rhyne,
Carson-Newman and Tusculum.
The Blue Hose will return to action on Saturday afternoon at
UNC Asheville starting at 2 p.m. The
game will be broadcast live on WMYA-TV 40.
In Clinton, WMYA is channel five on Charter Communications.
