CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Blue Hose women's basketball
team dropped the their next to last game of the 2009-10 season on Friday night to
Charleston Southern, 53-41.
Junior
Amanda Mills led the way for Presbyterian College (5-24, 3-12 BSC) in the game with
11 points. Senior Lea Smith added nine
points while freshman Dria David posted seven for the Blue Hose. Chelsea Wright matched her career high on the
boards with 15 rebounds.
Charleston
Southern (16-12, 8-7 BSC) was led by LeChell Rush's 20 points. Kelsey Wasmer added 10 while Tina DeCarvalho
had eight rebounds.
The Blue Hose
were 7-for-26 in the first half from the field but went 0-for-4 from downtown
as Smith led the way in the first 20 minutes with eight points.
PC was down
four coming out of the intermission, but Amanda Mills drained a three-pointer
just 13 seconds into the period to cut the lead down to one. However, a 13-2 CSU run took the lead out to
12 points.
The visitors
cut the lead back to five points at 15:02 when Parker drained a jumper. But, it was as close as PC would get on the
evening.
Down the stretch,
the Buccaneers ran the lead out to as many as 15 points with 3:56 before
ultimately claiming the 12-point win.
Ultimately,
PC shot 29 percent (15-of-51) from the field and 21 percent (3-of-14) from the three-point line. PC out-rebounded the Bucs,
38-to-36 in the game to mark the 12th time this year that the Blue
Hose won the rebound battle.
Big South
Freshman of the Year Candidate Mariah Pietrowski missed her first game of the
season.
The Blue
Hose close the season on Monday night at Coastal Carolina. PC will look to sweep the season series with
a game starting at 7 p.m.
