WILMINGTON, N.C.
- The Presbyterian
College men's tennis team traveled to UNC Wilmington Friday afternoon, falling
7-0 in a non-conference affair at the UNCW courts.
The Seahawks, ranked No. 73 in the country, won their third straight to improve
to 13-5 on the year while the Blue Hose now stand at 5-15 on the season.
Top-seeded Andrew Brigam and Matt Martin lost 8-3 to Kinshuk Sharma and Chris
Cooprider while third-seeded Kosta Blank and Illia Ziamtsou downed James Zaher
and Edward Snead 8-0. At the No. 2 spot, Ivan Ho and Zach Sprouse lost to
Michael Pereira and Ryan Ybarra 8-1.
in singles play, Brigham took Pereira to extra points in the second set, but
was unable to force a third set in the 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) loss. However, Zaher was
able to snag the first set of the match against Cooprider at No. 5, winning
6-2. It marked the lone set win for the Blue Hose in the contest. Zaher was
unable to close out the match, falling 6-3, 7-5 in the final two sets.
At No. 1, Martin lost 6-0, 6-4 to Sharma. Sprouse dropped a tough match to
Ybarra, 6-3, 6-2. Ho won just one point in each set at No. 4 against Ziamtsou
as did Snead against No. 6 Wetherell.
The Blue hose will look to improve their record tomorrow when they travel to
East Carolina.
