CLINTON, S.C. - Logan Huff doubled his
career goals tally on Friday night to lift Presbyterian College to a 2-1 win
over Furman for the first time since 1983.
The senior captain scored a penalty kick in the 30th minute
before heading home the game-winner after just 2:31 of overtime play. The win improves the Blue Hose to 1-0-0 on
the season while Furman drops to 1-1-0.
The Blue Hose were
awarded a penalty at the 29:28 mark when Nico Fazio was yanked down inside the
box. Huff took the ball and coolly
struck the ball past the keeper who guessed wrong on the play to make the score
1-0.
Furman seemed to
take the run of play for large portions of the match, giving the visiting
Paladins an overall 18-12 advantage in shots.
Furman also took eight corners to PC's 12.
After PC took
a 1-0 lead into the halftime break, Furman came out and scored after six minutes. Michael Gandier scored from the top of the penalty
area off a feed from Josh Leitch to level the teams at 1-1.
There was
little between the teams over the final minutes of the second half as they went
from end-to-end searching for the winning goal.
Ultimately, overtime was needed.
Just ten
seconds into overtime, Davis Orders ripped a shot from 40-yards which would
have beat the keeper who was off his line but sailed just over the
crossbar. At the other end of the field.
Furman's Fabien Vorbe took a shot from the edge of the penalty area which
missed the near post by inches.
A corner kick
was earned for PC as the Blue Hose pushed forward for the attack. Lewis Makin delivered the corner to the
center of the box where Huff rose to head the ball into the net. His goal doubles his career goals tally and
gave the Blue Hose the 2-1 win.
William
Redmond, who played just 62 minutes last season, went the distance in goal for
the Blue Hose and allowed just the one goal.
PC returns to
action on Thursday night on the road against I-26 rival USC Upstate. The match starts at 7 p.m.
